LIVERPOOL, September 14- Christian Benteke says he can take no satisfaction from his stunning overhead volley against Manchester United in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Daley Blind and Ander Herrera had the Red Devils 2-0 ahead when the Belgium international acrobatically fired home to offer the Reds hope of a late comeback.
However, any hopes of a revival were soon dashed as Anthony Martial netted a debut goal after beating the Liverpool defence at the opposite end of the pitch.
And while admitting a confidence boost from scoring his second competitive goal for the Reds, Benteke was more disappointed with the result.
“It was just instinct. I saw the ball come into the box and I just thought I had to try it,” he told the club’s official website.
“I had some luck and I am happy with it, but we didn’t get the three points.
“For my own confidence it was good, [it is] for a striker to score, but at the end of the day I would have rather taken the three points and so I’m disappointed.
“When I scored, I thought in my mind that maybe we could come back, but they scored to make it 3-1 and that killed our hopes.”
