Ukraine civil society delegation in Kenya to explore opportunities

NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 20 – A delegation of senior leaders from across Ukrainian civil society is in the country to conduct high-level meetings with policymakers, senior government officials, and representatives from the business community and civil society.

The team which will also be touring Ethiopia is expected to explore opportunities for a closer association between our countries, and to establish partnerships between Ukrainian and East African organizations.

The delegation proposes to discuss the realities of the current situation in Ukraine and its impact on Kenya and Ethiopia.

“At the same time, Russia’s illegal actions have plunged the world into an economic crisis and choked off global supplies of food and fertilizer, putting millions of people at risk of starvation. Few parts of the world have been hit as hard as East Africa,” read in part a statement from the delegation.

This delegation visit follows a highly successful visit to Nigeria and Ghana in October 2022, during which Ukrainian delegates met with government ministers, business leaders, and civil society representatives.

The delegation will be led by Archbishop Evstratiy Zorya, who is the spokesman of the Holy Synod, and also includes Ukrainian human rights expert Oleksandra Drik, and Anna Liubmya who is the Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The delegates are specialists in history and politics; economics; human rights; security and disinformation.

Their expertise will allow the delegation to engage on a wide range of issues of mutual interest to Nigeria and Ukraine and to explain how the situation on the ground is affecting the whole population and countries worldwide.

Since Russia launched its bloody invasion of Ukraine in February, innocent civilians have been massacred with many properties destroyed.
