Tanzanian arrested over killing of University student in Siaya

The suspect was arrested on Monday at around 12:00 noon following investigations into the killing of 20-year-old Education student Alice Riang’a, also known as Sabina.

NAIROBI, Kenya May 12 – A Tanzanian has been arrested in connection with the murder of a second-year university student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Siaya County.

According to a police report from Bondo Police Station the suspect was arrested on Monday at around 12:00 noon following investigations into the killing of 20-year-old Education student Alice Riang’a, also known as Sabina.

Police say the arrest followed positive identification of the victim’s body, which had initially been reported as unidentified by her father. The breakthrough in identification helped investigators link the suspect to the crime.

Following confirmation of the incident, about 700 students staged a peaceful demonstration within the university town.

The students marched along the main road towards the police station and later proceeded to the mortuary, where they were allowed to view the body of the deceased before returning to the university.

Authorities reported that the demonstration was peaceful and well-managed, with no use of tear gas or any violent incidents recorded during the protests.

Security agencies say investigations into the murder are ongoing as the suspect remains in custody pending further legal processes.
