Investigation Launched Into Cause of Kisumu Building Collapse as Safety Oversight Tightened

Engineers and technical experts have been deployed to the site to conduct comprehensive assessments of the remaining structure.

KISUMU, Kenya May 12 – Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the partial collapse of a four-storey building in Tom Mboya Estate, Kisumu, as authorities intensify scrutiny on structural safety and compliance standards.

Officials have confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine what led to the failure of part of the structure. The findings are expected to guide further action, including possible enforcement measures against any breaches of building regulations or safety requirements.

According to authorities, engineers and technical experts have been deployed to the site to conduct comprehensive assessments of the remaining structure. Their work will focus on identifying whether construction defects, material failure, design flaws, or regulatory non-compliance contributed to the incident.

City officials have reiterated that public safety remains the top priority as investigations proceed. The affected area remains cordoned off, with emergency and technical teams maintaining a presence on-site to monitor stability and prevent further risks.

Authorities have also urged residents to keep away from the location while assessments continue, warning that the structure may still pose danger until it is fully evaluated.

The ongoing probe is expected to inform broader enforcement actions aimed at strengthening building safety compliance and preventing similar incidents in the future.
