NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 28 – The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) says it will not sue Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) of the use of purple colour in its symbol.
Despite having a patent, Secretary General Francis Atwoli stated that the party will not follow that route.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Atwoli stated that the Union is bigger than any political party.
“We have a letter of patent related to the colour but after weighing the matter, we realised that if we sue the party, we will be building Martha Karua,” he explained.
“We will make her appear as if she can create impact on Kenyan masses as far as Kenyan politics is concerned.”
During its launch Thursday, PLP moved away from its red, white, and green colors to purple, lilac, and white.
Karua explained that the rebranding is meant to appeal to younger voters, particularly Generation Z, who are expected to play a crucial role in the 2027 General Election.
Atwoli, however, downplayed her political influence, questioning her level of support, particularly in her home region.
“Does she even have a single supporter in Central? Even in her own home area?” he posed.
Meanwhile, Karua and her PLP continue to push forward with their rebranding strategy, positioning themselves as a fresh force ahead of the 2027 General Election.
