Border Police Unit Commandant dies after collapsing at home

NAIROBI,Kenya Dec 15 — Detectives in Yatta have opened probe into circumstances surrounding the death of a senior police officer in Machakos’ Matuu town.

Police said Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, who was the commandant of the Border Patrol Police Unit, an elite force tasked with the securing the country’s border, died after collapsing on Friday night at his rental house.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Matuu Level 4 Hospital.

“The body has been moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy,” read a police report obtained by Capital News.

Mwita was aged 54 at the time of his death.
