NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 5 – Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Principal Secretary for Correctional Services Salome Beacco were among the dignitaries who joined members of the disciplined services and their families in the annual thanksgiving ceremony at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi.
This event held annually is dedicated to honoring and recognizing the divine role of God in ensuring the safety and security of service members and the nation.
It unites various branches of the disciplined services, including the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kenya Prison Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, and the National Youth Service.
Apart from the Holy Mass conducted to express gratitude for the past year and seek blessings for the future, the services also undertake a joint social responsibility initiative. This entails visiting children’s homes and providing donations contributed by officers from across the country to support the less privileged in society.
Addressing the congregation, Chief Guest Principal Secretary for Correctional Services Salome Beacco commended the sacrifices made by service members in safeguarding Kenyans and the nation. She characterized their sacrifices as acts of selflessness and patriotism.
PS Beacco urged security agents throughout the country to maintain diligence in their service delivery, emphasizing that the pursuit of justice should be their unwavering goal.
Inspector General Koome expressed gratitude to the church for its spiritual support to police officers and called for continued spiritual guidance as they carry out their duties.
The Holy Mass was presided over by the Most Reverend Philip Anyolo, the Archbishop of Nairobi Metropolitan Diocese, who offered prayers for the services to find strength and guidance in the wisdom of God. He encouraged the officers to prioritize God in all their endeavors.
The event also marked the conclusion of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ two-year stewardship in coordinating the joint services’ pastoral activities, as the mantle was passed to the Kenya Wildlife Service command.
