Sakaja issues 2,000 title deeds to individuals, 100 public facilities

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 22 – Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja on Thursday issued 2,000 title deeds to individuals and 100 public facilities within Nairobi sub counties.

The governor observed that the ownership tittles which were mostly issued to elderly people have stalled for over fifty years and subsequent administrations have not taken them to account.

The process of issuance of the 2,000 title deed is a collaboration between the national government through the ministry of lands and the Nairobi county government.

While issuing the tittle deeds,Sakaja observed that only 11 percent of land in Naitobi has been tittled,a number he says the county is working haed to scale up in the coming months.

“We have land that should be used to generate incomw for our county. Our biggest source of revenue has been rates emmanating from land,”said the city governor, further calling those incharge of lands in the county to ensure that that figure is stepped up.

He further observed that the tittle deeds will now help their holders to unlock their full economic potential.

Sakaja has subsequently taken up a case with what he calls cartels in the land sector in the city, calling on them to respect the county systems.

“There are very few bad people in Nairobi. They are however very vicious.I ask them.to shun that behaviour and do the right thing,”said Sakaja.

The city boss regretted that most public schools are grappling with expansion challenges as learners transit to Junior Secondary Schools because their land has been grabbed.

Only last month had Sakaja commenced a drive to reclaim public land grabbed by private developers an exercise he says will go on until the county reclaims all land encroached by the grabbers.
