Deputy President William Ruto has urged caution on the roads/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 10 – Deputy President William Ruto is urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules and regulations, especially during the festive season to avoid loss of lives.

Speaking following a road accident Saturday night where a local artist and five of his dancers perished at Lamar along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Ruto expressed his condolences to their family and friends.

Those who died were travelling in a saloon car towards Nakuru when they collided head on with a truck that was going in the opposite direction.

The DP also mourned fourteen people who died after an Administration Police vehicle they were travelling in rolled two kilometres to Loruk in Baringo County.

The area Administration Police Commandant Robinson Ndiwa said those who perished on the spot were 13 adults and a child.

The accident occurred at about 2pm, Saturday.

He said the driver of the lorry based at Kapedo Operation AP Camp was trying to avoid a herd of goats that were crossing the road when he lost control of the truck.

He said the first rescuers to arrive at the scene were Kenya Defence Forces personnel from the nearby Loruk Camp.

Ndiwa added the survivors who include five AP officers were taken to Kabarnet Level Four hospital for treatment.
