NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 16 – A police officer is among three people charged with possession of eight pieces of ivory.
The officer, David Ongeri, is a CID detective attached to the Mlolongo Police Station in Machakos County.
The prosecution says he and co-accused Perpetual Mueke and Everlyne Kisese were arrested on August 15 at Mlolongo town.
The court was told the ivory has a street value of Sh300,000.
The accused denied the charges before Kibera Chief Magistrate Ann Ongijo.
They were each released on a Sh500,000 bond with a surety of similar amount.
The case will be heard on December 5.
