NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 11 – In the absence of the injured duo of Deogratious Ojok and Ibrahim Joshua, Tusker FC’s top scorers last season, Eric Otieno has been handed his chance and he finally broke his league duck on Sunday, scoring one of two as the brewers beat Sofapaka 2-0.
He had earlier on scored three goals in two matches in the FKF Cup, but scoring in the league was a huge relief for the former Wazito FC and Nzoia Sugar man.
“I feel relieved to have scored and redeemed myself. It has been difficult but I am glad to have not only scored but helped the team win,” Otieno said.
The forward has struggled to impose himself in the team since arriving at the start of the season, but Ojok and Ibrahim’s injuries have left him as the only out and out striker in the squad.
Joshua has been out for a month and a half after injuring his knee in training while Ojok has missed the last three weeks with a sprained ankle.
Otieno has admitted it has been tough, but his recent goal scoring performances have handed him confidence.
“The goals give me a lot of confidence and I believe I can do more. I want to keep on improving and helping the team,” he added.
He hopes to have another goal scoring return on Wednesday when they face Mathare at their Ruaraka Complex, where he hopes he can play a big role in aiding the team win.
