Owalo Promises Tax Reforms, Open to Working With Kalonzo

Owalo emphasized that his priority, if elected president, would be overhauling Kenya’s tax system.

NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 2 – Presidential aspirant Eliud Owalo says he has no problem working with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, provided they focus on advancing policies that serve the interests of ordinary Kenyans.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Owalo emphasized that his priority, if elected president, would be overhauling Kenya’s tax system.

He proposed major tax reforms aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens and boosting economic growth.

“I do not have a problem working with Kalonzo Musyoka so long as we are pursuing the agenda of serving the interests of the common man,” Owalo said.

Owalo outlined his proposed tax policy, which includes reducing income tax from 35% to 20%, lowering Value Added Tax (VAT) from 16% to 10% and abolishing the digital service tax.

“The current taxation regime is punitive and stifles growth,” Owalo said. “My administration will ensure that citizens keep more of their hard-earned money while fostering an environment that encourages investment and entrepreneurship.”

Owalo’s comments come as political alliances and economic agendas take center stage ahead of Kenya’s 2026 elections.
