NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 15 – The storm in the Jubilee has gone a notch higher with both factions claiming control of the party.
The Kanini Kega-led faction on Wednesday held a press conference at the Party headquarters which they indicated that they have taken over.
Speaking during a press conference, Kega urged the ousted members led by Jeremiah Kioni to air their grievances through the transparent internal process.
“We have come today, and we thought that we would met with the former officials as we shake hands, but they are not around and instructed the workers not to report,” the East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament (MP) stated.
“We however want to assure you that from today, we are in office legally and will follow al processes required, and all former officials will be given a chance to defend themselves in a transparent manner,” he added.
And even as Kega said this, the Kioni-led faction indicated that there is only one communication channel from the party.
Through the party’s official twitter account, it dismissed an earlier communication announcing the induction of new members.
“NOTE TO THE PUBLIC AND OUR MEMBERS: Official communication on Party matters will be done on official Party platforms pending the outcome of internal processes to resolve the impasse within the Party,” it stated.
The communication was done through a WhatsApp message where journalists were invited to cover the induction which was spearheaded by EALA MP Kanini Kega.
“Jubilee Party AG Secretary General Kanini Kega will Wednesday, February 15, 2023, be inducting new office bearers. He will thereafter issue a press statement.”
The interim officials are in a meeting at Dik Dik Gardens, off Mandera Road, Nairobi. They are also expected to address the media.
The officials allied to the ruling Kenya Kwanza camp were on Tuesday validated by the Registrar of Political Parties following the suspension of former leaders.
In the changes that were effected by the Jubilee National Executive Council and endorsed by the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, Eldas MP Adan Keynan was named the acting national vice-chairperson.
