Gor Mahia asks Raila to Postpone Jacaranda rally to allow Mashemeji Derby support

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 26 – Gor Mahia football club has written to Azimio leader Raila Odinga requesting him to postpone the planned Sunday rallies to allow support from both clubs to enjoy the Mashemeji Derby.

Club Secretary General Samuel Ochola pointed out that the derby clash with AFC Leopards will be on the same day as the Azimio meeting.

“As our dear patron, we wish to remind you of our Mashemeji Derby clash with Afc Leopards at 3 pm at Nyayo Stadium. The same day that you will be holding consultative meeting cum demo,” he said.

“We here by formally invite you to grace the occasion.”

Ochola also asked Raila to consider rescheduling the protests to allow fans to make it in time for the derby.

“We also appeal to you to consider either rescheduling the demo or having it and in good time to enable supporters of both clubs make their way to the stadium in time for the derby,” Ochola said.

Raila announced on Monday in the rally held in Kamukunji that the Azimio la Umoja coalition will hold another rally at Jacaranda grounds on January 29, 2023.

“We will be having another meeting on the coming Sunday date 29 in Jacaranda,” Raila said.

The party leader speaking to his supporters, urged Kenyans to stand firm as his team works on elections reforms.

The Kamukunji rally followed the Azimio leaders’ accusations that the results of the general election in August 2022 were rigged.

Kioni who is Secretary General of the former ruling party Jubilee, a constituent member of Azimio, said Raila Odinga won with 8,170,355 votes.

He cited an unverified whistleblower report which purported to outline how rigging and manipulation was done to overturn the will of the people.

“We have maintained that the results announced by Chebukati didn’t reflect the will of Kenyans. The results were manipulated and what was present to Kenyans was far from the truth,” he said.
