NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 24 – A police constable was Thursday charged for evading to pay tax amounting Sh8 million between the year 2015 to June 2019.
Atieno Mango was presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi, where she denied 19 tax fraud counts arising tenders for procurement of goods and services for the National Youth Service (NYS).
The trial magistrate ordered released on a cash bail of Sh3 million or place a bond of Sh5 million.
Further the court directed that she deposits her passport in court.
The prosecution through Doris Inga’hizu, told the court the accused on diverse dates between January 2015 and June 2016 without reasonable omitted from making VAT returns as required by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner for Income Tax.
The prosecution asked the court to restrain the accused from interfering with ongoing investigation. Tow of her children are said to be under probe in relation to the case.
The case will be mentioned on November 7 for pretrial conference. The matter will be heard on November 28.
The court directed the prosecution to supply all witness statements and other exhibits that will relied on during the hearing.
