Girl linked to ex-TV personality was killed/file

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 17 – The family of IT specialist Careen Chepchumba who was found dead in her apartment on Tuesday is now demanding thorough investigations by the police after a post-mortem showed the 26-year-old girl was murdered.

A post-mortem conducted on Thursday revealed that Chepchumba was strangled and did not commit suicide as earlier thought.

“Our daughter was killed. She died in circumstances that cannot be explained. A post-mortem has showed Careen was actually strangled,” her father Hosea Kili who is the Managing Trustee of Local Authorities Pension Trust (LAPTRUST) said and added that “people who associated with my daughter know much more about this killing.”

He did not however, mention any of her friends. “We do not want to speculate, but if the police can find out the people who were associating with my daughter, they should be able to pick the suspects.”

“The family is finally relieved to learn that our daughter did not commit suicide as earlier speculated. My daughter died at the hands of someone and we have left it to the police,” said the grieving father.

Careen worked at the Kenya Power’s IT department at its Stima Plaza headquarters and was last seen alive on Sunday night.

“It is actually her brother who escorted her to her house (in Kilimani) but we got worried when we failed to hear from her on Monday. We checked at her place of work and she was nowhere to be seen and that is why her mother decided they should visit her, only to find her dead. It was strange because the door was open, which means the people or person who killed her did not break the door,” her father explained.

The family resides near China Centre off Ngong Road while the girl lived at an apartment off Kirichwa road within Kilimani.

The deceased woman was a girlfriend to a former prominent TV personality who also resides at the same apartment block as the dead girl’s family.

Police at the Kilimani police station said an investigation into the murder had been launched and appealed to anyone with information to volunteer it.

No suspect had been arrested over the girl’s killing by Friday evening.

Rest in peace Careen. It is unfortunate that she lost her life through such a terrible circumstances that she could not bear a lone. People have more loan and some even lose their properties as a result. Sincerely i simpathise with her parents but wish the boyfriend could have matured up. But if it is true that the lady has borrowed such a lot of money to keep her boyfriend maintain his luxurious lifestyle and that she has been strangled to death, then the police have leads to get the killers. it is even simpler if the uncaring boyfriend has not showed up to mourn her death. The person who led to this mess should not only be jailed but hanged- you cannot just mess up somebody like this and hope to succeed in life. So sad.

This is just sad. We need to separate the criminal investigations from the remotely romantic/extortion.

we have a mediocre judicial system so the real meaning of justice cannot be realised here. so forget abt justice n deal with it.
