NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6 – Tusker FC midfielder Teddy Osok, high jumper Mathew Sawe as well as elite athletes Agatha Jeruto, Alice Aprot, USA based Michael Saruni and Kumari Taki are among the big names listed in the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) latest list of sportsmen suspended due to various doping offences.
This comes just a day after ADAK CEO Serah Shibutse promised to release the names of athletes who have been handed provisional suspensions.
Shibutse had previously said that ADAK was not releasing the names due to their strict code, but says upon consultation with the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), were informed it would be okay to release the names.
Osok is the only footballer in the least released by ADAK and he has been suspended for the Boldenone and its metabolites. His suspension has been running since March 21, 2022.
The former Gor Mahia Youth product joined Tusker from Zambian side Kitwe, but has featured seldomly for the 12-time Premier League champions due to an injury he picked very early on last season.
Meanwhile, high jumper Sawe, a two-time African champion has been serving a suspension since July 2022 due to the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide.
Another two-time African champion Alice Aprot has also been serving a suspension since July 14, 2022 due to the presence of S4 – Letrozole Metabolite Bis-(4- Cyanophenyl) Methanol.
Kumari Taki, the 2016 World Under-18 1500m champion, who was due to represent Kenya at the Commonwealth Games but was pulled out in the 11th hour, is also apparently serving a suspension for the presence of the infamous EPO (erythropoietin).
Also suspended over the same is Michael Kibet. He has been suspended since November 21, 2022.
At the same time, USA-based 800m runner Saruni is suspended since August 14, 2022 for evading, refusing, or failing to submit to Sample Collection.
The list of 20 majorly includes athletes but also has one judoka (Perister Bosire) and three body builders (Jotham Karani, Brandon Oluoch and Joseph Wesonga)
