NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 20 – Usawa Party Leader Mwangi Wa Iria has criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his comments on “shareholders” in relation to service delivery to Kenyans.
Wa Iria was referring to Gachagua’s statement in February that government appointments and contracts are only for those who voted for the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking at the Azimio Coalition town hall meeting in Murang’a on Thursday, Wa Iria emphasized that every Kenyan deserves equal treatment from the government, regardless of their political affiliation.
“We cannot have a government that runs a shareholders’ administration. And if it is so, then we shall have the rest of Kenyans who never voted for them running their own affairs. Non-shareholders also have a stake in this country, “he said.
The event was attended Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and others.
Wa Iria clarified that not all residents from the Mount Kenya region are members of the United Democratic Alliance, as claimed by some Kenya Kwanza allied leaders.
He also stated that Odinga is respected and loved by Kenyans and has the right to visit any part of the country.
He called on the residents to speak out about the challenges they face without fear, allowing Odinga to advocate for them from an informed position.
He emphasized that the servers “must be opened” regardless of the circumstances.
The meeting took place a week after a similar gathering by Azimio was held in Nairobi.
