Gladys Shollei named Judiciary Registrar

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 22 – Gladys Boss Shollei was on Monday sworn in as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

Mrs Shollei who has been the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer at the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) was sworn in by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga before the Judicial Service Commission that recruited her.

She is one of the five candidates who were grilled by the JSC in the interviews that kicked off on August 11 after the conclusion of the interviews for the judges of the High Court.

Also interviewed for the position were International Commission of Jurists-Kenya Executive Director George Kegoro, Registrar of the High Court Lydia Achode, Court of Appeal Registrar Moses Serem, Stephen Kibunja and Joel Ng’eno.

The JSC had earlier published names of 17 applicants, five of whom sought to be Deputy Chief Registrar.

Mrs Shollei had also been interviewed for the position of Deputy Chief Justice.

Prior to joining IIEC, she was the Editor and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council for Law Reporting. The 42 year old holds a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from University of Nairobi.
