FKF Cup: Mouth-watering fixtures set as quarter final line up confirmed

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 1 – The quarter final pairings for the FKF MozzartBet Cup is complete, after the end of tight and closely competed round of 16 features, this past weekend.

Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz have remained in the competition after edging out Tusker FC by a solitary goal, in a repeat of last year’s final, and are still in line for a second successive title.

Homeboyz will travel to Nairobi for their quarter final duel, and will take on KCB, who progressed to the last eight after a well-worked 3-1 victory over Bidco United.

The bankers have had a torrid season under coach Bernard Mwalala, but now have an opportunity to salvage their season, with a date against the defending champions.

Meanwhile, another team which has had a tough season, Sofapaka, will also have a chance to save their blushes with the Cup.

Batoto ba Mungu progressed to the last eight after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 weith giant killers Bungoma Stars, before winning 5-4 on post-match penalties.

They will take on Kenya Police FC, the latter having come from 1-0 down to thrash National Super League side Mombasa Stars 3-1.

Police are under pressure to clinch a trophy this season especially with the investment in squad depth and the Cup is their way to silverware this term as the league is already beyond their reach.

In the other quarter final pairings, AFC Leopards have landed a fairer path, as they will take on Division One side Compel FC. Leopards edged out Shabana by a solitary goal in their round of 16 duel, while Compel stunned National Super League side Mara Sugar 2-0.

Leopards have not won a title in seven years, their last trophy being the Cup in 2017, when it was known as the GOtv Shield. As they celebrate 60 years of existence, winning the title would be a perfect way to cap off the celebrations.

In the final quarter final duel, NSL outfit SS Assad will play at home against Kariobangi Sharks. Assad edged out Denmak FC 2-1 in the Ukunda derby to progress to the last eight, while Sharks beat Ulinzi Stars 2-1.
