Sweden beat holders USA on penalties to reach Women’s World Cup quarter-finals

MELBOURNE, Australia, Aug 8 – Sweden knocked two-time defending champions the United States out of the Women’s World Cup on Sunday, winning their last-16 tie 5-4 on penalties.

Lina Hurtig scored the decisive kick in the shoot-out after the match finished 0-0 at the end of extra-time. Sweden will now face Japan in the quarter-finals.
