UPDATE: One Dead, Scores Hurt as Bus Ploughs Into Teachers in Ngara

NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 31 — One person was killed and at least 30 others injured on Saturday evening after a public service vehicle lost control and rammed into pedestrians in Ngara, Nairobi.

The crash occurred at around 5pm outside Nairobi City Primary School, where teachers had gathered after casting their votes in the KUPPET branch elections.

Police said the victims were standing outside the school compound when the Githurai-bound bus veered off the road and crashed into the crowd.

Witnesses say the bus believed to be carrying passengers, veered off the road near the school’s main gate and crashed into the crowd of teachers who were leaving the polling centre.

Police and rescue personnel were quickly deployed to the scene following the crash. Traffic on Murang’a Road was disrupted, with authorities diverting vehicles to alternate routes while rescue and investigation operations continued into the evening.

Investigators are working to establish the exact cause of the crash, including whether speeding, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the vehicle losing control.

Officials have urged motorists and pedestrians in school zones and during events like elections to maintain caution.
