Mary-Ann Musangi Joins UN Global Compact Network Kenya Board to Advance Sustainable Business

She is a well-known advocate for sustainability with extensive experience in environmental and social impact initiatives, described the appointment as both an honour and a duty.

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 12 – The UN Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK), the local chapter of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, has appointed Mary-Ann Musangi to its board, bolstering its leadership team as it seeks to accelerate responsible business practices nationwide.

Musangi, a well-known advocate for sustainability with extensive experience in environmental and social impact initiatives, described the appointment as both an honour and a duty.

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to join the Board of the UN Global Compact Network Kenya—a platform leading the way in promoting responsible business and progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she said. “This role comes at a time when the private sector is being called to redefine its purpose—not just as a generator of profit, but as a steward of people and the planet.”

The UN Global Compact Network Kenya has been instrumental in steering businesses toward sustainability through advocacy, training, and the promotion of principles centred on human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It also works to align corporate efforts with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In recent years, Kenya has witnessed growing corporate interest in sustainability. The GCNK has supported key initiatives such as the Africa Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC) and the annual SDG Pioneer Awards, which recognise individuals making outstanding contributions to advancing the SDGs through their organisations.

Musangi’s appointment is seen as part of a broader strategy to enhance stakeholder engagement and scale up private sector action on sustainability.

“I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members and sustainability leaders to deepen engagement with Kenyan businesses, forge bold partnerships, and shape a future where responsible business is the norm,” Musangi added. “Here’s to purpose-driven leadership, shared prosperity, and leaving no one behind.”

Her addition to the board is expected to inject fresh energy and strategic insight as the organisation continues to guide Kenya’s private sector through an era of rapid change.

With Musangi on board, the UN Global Compact Network Kenya reaffirms its role as a catalyst for ethical, inclusive, and sustainable business across the region.
