DP Gachagua Visits Injured Police Officer Amid Crackdown on Illicit Brews

Two suspects involved in the attack on Chief Inspector Misoi have already been apprehended and arraigned in court.

NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 2 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning against the increasing attacks on police officers in the ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit brew and drug abuse as he visited a police officer attacked during a crackdown.

Juja Police Station OCS, Chief Inspector John Misoi was attacked by brewers and sellers of illicit killer alcohol in Gachororo, Juja in Kiambu County.

Speaking during a visit to Avenue Hospital in Thika where the officer was receiving treatment after being injured in a crackdown, the DP emphasized that the government would not tolerate such crimes against law enforcement officials.

Chief Inspector Misoi was hospitalized at Avenue Hospital in Thika after sustaining injuries from illicit alcohol brewers and sellers during a crackdown at Gachororo Slums in Juja town. The Deputy President described these attacks as a direct affront to the government.

“The war on illicit brew and drug abuse is ongoing. There will be no relenting, despite the resistance we face. Criminals showing impunity towards attacking officers will be pursued relentlessly,” stated DP Rigathi.

Two suspects involved in the attack on Chief Inspector Misoi have already been apprehended and arraigned in court. The Deputy President assured that they would face appropriate charges, including attempted murder.

Despite the challenges encountered, DP Rigathi expressed confidence in the progress of the crackdown, noting a decrease in alcoholism cases. Enhanced surveillance at the borders has significantly contributed to this positive trend.

“Kenyans are now sober, and reports indicate a reduction in alcohol consumption. While we have made significant progress, the fight is not over. We remain committed to eradicating illicit brews and drugs from our society,” asserted the Deputy President.

The crackdown has not been without casualties, with seven officers and three chiefs falling victim to criminals resisting the new measures. DP Rigathi commended the dedication of law enforcement personnel and assured them of unwavering support in the fight against illicit activities.

“We stand with our officers and urge them to continue the war against illicit brew and drugs without fear. Our commitment to police reforms remains steadfast, with plans underway to address their welfare concerns,” DP Rigathi emphasized.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the task force on police reforms, including reviewing officers’ terms of service and providing insurance coverage for those injured or killed in the line of duty.
