NAROK, Kenya, Apr 6 – Kenya and Tanzania are set to construct an Immigration Office at the common border in Olposimoru area- Narok West Sub County to ease movement between the two countries.
Narok West Member of Parliament Gabriel Tongoyo said the Kenyan side has already set aside a piece of land for the construction and was awaiting the Tanzania side to give their share.
Tongoyo, who is also the Chairperson of the National Assembly committee on National Security and Administration said this while on a tour to hand over a patrol vehicle to the police post at the border.
He was accompanied by Loima constituency MP Protus Akujah and Lari constituency MP Joseph Mburu, who are also members of the National Security Committee.
Tongoyo reiterated the many insecurity incidents that have been reported in the area saying the vehicle would help to patrol the area and curb crime.
Tongoyo said construction of the border point would also boost business in the area as there would be more people visiting.
“This is an initiative of the National Government to boost development in this region. We believe that immediately the Tanzania side allocates the land, the construction will begin,” he said.
MP Mburu noted that the initiative would boost the livelihood of the pastoralist communities living in the area adding that many young people from the region would be employed to work at the border point.
The area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Duncan Darusi while confirming that there were many insecurity incidents reported, lauded the vehicle given to help in patrol.
“It was difficult to deal with rising cases of insecurity because of the vastness of the land. However, with the new vehicle, we are confident of enhanced security,” said the DCC.
