Govt approves importation of duty free dates for Ramadhan

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – The Government has approved the importation of tax-free dates for use during the holy month of Ramadhan.

In a statement, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u stated that the dates will also not be subjected to Import Declaration Fee and Railway Development Levy.

The government has previous years supported the Muslim community by allowing the duty-free importation of dates and paid the relevant taxes in the absence of legal provisions for waivers.
