NJORO, Kenya, Mar 14 – Eight people were Monday charged with different offences connected with the on-going chaos at the disputed farm in Gongogeri area of Njoro, Nakuru County.

The offenses ranged from murder, robbery with violence and incitement to violence.

Among those charged was United Republican Party nominated Member of County Assembly who was charged with incitement to violence and Dr Kenneth Komen who was charged with murder.

Seven of them were charged at the Chief Magistrate court in Molo while the murder suspect appeared before Justice Janet Mulwa at the High Court in Nakuru.

Komen is accused of shooting Stephen Munyereri dead on March 12. Munyereri had allegedly gone to salvage property from his son’s destroyed house when he was shot dead.

Komen was not required to answer to the murder charge since he had not undergone a mental examination to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

He will be held at the Njoro Police Station until March 23 when he will take plea.

The MCA and three others were charged with incitement to violence when they appeared before Molo Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo. They denied committing the offences and were released on a Sh20,000 bond pending hearing of their case on June 27 to 30.

The other three were charged with robbery with violence at the same court and were released on a Sh100,000 bonds plus surety pending hearing on July 4 to 7.
