An ally of Uhuru Kenyatta said Mudavadi should either be ready to face off with The National Alliance (TNA) leader in a nomination process or immediately declare his intent to leave the Jubilee Alliance. “Mudavadi has three options, but I would ask him to stay in the coalition.”
Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi said the exit option can prove time-costly for Mudavadi as he would be required to write to the Registrar of Political Parties giving a three-month notice of his intention to drop out of the alliance with Kenyatta and William Ruto.
“I would discourage Mudavadi from leaving the coalition. First for him to leave, he has to give a notice of three months which will end after the March elections,” warned.
Mudavadi’s third option, according to Linturi, is for the United Republican Party (URP), UDF and TNA parties to mutually consent for him to leave the coalition immediately, “which is unlikely for all the three member coalition parties to agree… it is not achievable. The best thing for him is to face the delegates na wamenyane na (compete with) Kenyatta.
Linturi is one of the MPs who have insisted that Kenyatta and Mudavadi must be subjected to a nomination process and he believes there were external forces that influenced Kenyatta to want to step down for Mudavadi.
He also said the party members cannot honour the agreement between Mudavadi and Kenyatta since the two agreed as individuals without the consent of the party supporters and the party organs.
Meanwhile, URP, TNA and UDF will on Sunday hold a rally at the Tononoka grounds in Mombasa.
“We will be at Tononoka for our rally. All our Jubilee members will be there, with or without few, we are committed to being together and carrying our agenda forward, despite these differences Jubilee is strong,” Linturi asserted.
In an earlier interview on Citizen Television on Wednesday morning, URP’s Ruto said Kenyatta was not under any pressure to step down for Mudavadi contradicting Kenyatta’s remarks on Tuesday in which the Gatundu South MP said he was threatened to relinquish his bid in favour of Mudavadi.
