Police officer drowns in a hotel swimming pool in Siaya

KISUMU, Kenya, Mar 25 – A police officer died after drowning in a swimming pool at a hotel in Alego/Usonga sub-county Sunday evening.

The police constable Austin Ouma who was attached to Ratado police station in Ugenya sub-county is said to have gone for refreshment and entertainment when he met his untimely death.

According to a police incident report, the matter was reported to Siaya police station by the Manager of The Audrey Resort Mr. Didacus Abuya that one of their customers, Constable Ouma has drowned while swimming at the deep end of the pool.

It has been established that the deceased together with his two other colleagues Peter Mucheru and Samwel Kirogo were at the said resort for entertainment when he decided to swim.

It is reported that he dived to the deep end of the pool and failed to turn up prompting his friends and other revelers to raise an alarm.

The report further indicated that in the event, the pool attendant dived into the water and rescued him while unconscious before he was rushed to Siaya County referral hospital where was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body of the officer is lying at the Siaya County hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
