Kindiki vows firm action on security officers aiding criminals, drug lords

Kindiki pointed out that there is tangible evidence pointing to some police officers having engaged in criminal activities such as allowing criminals to get away with crimes and also assisting in drug trafficking.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 3 — Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to security officers who are aiding and allowing the prevalence of criminal activities across the country.

Speaking in Mutuati, Meru, the CS has pointed out that there is tangible evidence pointing to some police officers having engaged in criminal activities such as allowing criminals to get away with crimes and also assisting in drug trafficking.

He has assured that action will be taken against such individuals.

“We are taking action against officers who are already serving either in uniform or not in uniform we get evidence that they are looking the other way and allowing criminals to get away with crimes, some of them are being induced through monetary gains to allow criminals perpetrate other crimes including Narcotics,” Kindiki said on Saturday.

“These officers are part and parcel of the problem. You will have to choose if you want to remain in service or join these criminals,” he stated.

The CS further urged security personnel in Meru to pull up their socks following the increasing rate of cattle rustling in the past two weeks in Meru North.

“I think in the last two weeks there has been raid after raid, every day, this cannot be left to continue anymore,” he stated.

Kindiki assured that the National Police Reservists(NPRs) have been deployed to reinforce and assist the security personnel in the area.

“The government recently deployed National Police Reservists(NPRs) to support the security personnel in the Nothern Parts of Meru to contain persistent instances of livestock theft,” he stated.
