NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 20 – Former Laikipia North lawmaker Mathew Lempurkel secured his freedom on Monday after the court allowed his bail application pending an appeal in which he contested the year-long jail term he was handed on November 5.
Lempurkel was ordered to pay a Sh100,000 cash bail.
Justice Justus Bwongonga granted the application to allows Lempurkel to pursue his appeal.
The politician was committed to jail by Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwani after she found him guilty of assaulting serving Laikipia North Member Parliament Sarah Korere.
