, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – President Uhuru Kenyatta received a 21-gun salute from the Kenya Defence Forces, to affirm him as the Commander in Chief.

This was after he and his deputy William Ruto were sworn into office by Chief Judiciary Registrar Anne Amadi.

That marked the beginning of a second five-year term after a prolonged electioneering period, characterised by divisiveness.

Upon arrival, President Kenyatta acknowledged greetings from the crowd, which made a deafening joyful noise.

“Si uchawi, ni maombi!” went the chants.

The President also inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Kenya Defence Forces.
