NAIROBI, Kenya, June 4 — The government has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar.
In a statement dated June 3, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the holiday under the provisions of Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110).
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, 6th June, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” read the notice.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The occasion is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual slaughtering of animals, with portions of the meat shared among family, friends, and those in need.
Muslims across the country are expected to gather in mosques and open grounds for special prayers as they observe the religious celebration.
