NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 17 – Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife Jane Waigwe Kimani has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over a Sh140 million corruption allegations.
According to the anti-graft body, Wa Iria’s wife was arrested alongside her brother Solomon Kimani.
“The two are currently before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for plea-taking. They are the Directors of Value View Ltd, one of the companies used as a conduit for the fraudulent scheme,” said EACC in a post.
On April 15, EACC had summoned Mwangi Wa Iria and seven others to face charges in the Sh140 million corruption scandal that it said had happened when Wa Iria was governor.
In a statement earlier, the officials were directed to appear before the commission on Tuesday morning ahead of their arraignment.
EACC said the officials will face charges related to procurement irregularities and conflict of interest in the award of publicity tenders by the County Government of Murang’a.
EACC has however revealed that it is still pursuing the former county boss including 6 other suspects.
The former Governor will be charged alongside Patrick Kagumu Mukuria, Jane Wanjiru Mbuthia, David Maina Kiama, David Mamma Njeri, and Peter Muturi Karanja.
The charges against them include conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, dealing with suspect property, and money laundering.
