Kahiga directs Public Service Board to stop salaries of 59 Nyeri doctors on strike

NYERI, Kenya, Apr 8 – Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has directed the County Public Service Board to stop salaries of 59 doctors taking part in the on-going strike.

This comes a week after the Council of Governors called on the striking doctors to obey court orders suspending their strike and resume work or face the sack

Governors, who held an extra-ordinary meeting last Wednesday, also called on the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with individual county governments.

The doctors rejected yesterday President William Ruto plea to understand the government’s fiscal constraints, stressing the importance of living within means when it comes to salaries and allowances.

Their key grievances include; delayed posting of interns, fair remuneration of interns, postgraduate training, employment of more doctors and comprehensive health coverage.
