Muthama accused Kibaki of being a tribalist/FILE
Government spokesman Muthui Kariuki said that the comments Muthama made claiming Kibaki was being partisan are disrespectful to the president, as well as insensitive, irresponsible and an insult to the intelligence of the Kenyan people.
“Muthama knows that that is a lie and I need not remind him and his ilk that until another president is sworn in after tomorrow’s general election that President Mwai Kibaki remains the Head of State and government,” he said.
“Honourable Muthama owes the president and the country at large an apology,” he added.
Kariuki warned politicians from engaging in inciteful speech or from dragging senior political officials into their campaigns in order to stir up controversy.
“Politicians should be very careful about the utterances they make, particularly now when we’re heading to the polls tomorrow morning,” he said.
“It is in the same vain that I want to urge all the political parties to stop dragging in senior government officials or national institutions into their political campaigns,” he added.
Last month, Head of the Public Service Francis Kimemia dismissed allegations levelled against him by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy that he was campaigning for the Jubilee candidates as “baseless, malicious, horrific and falsehoods in their entirety.”
