Delegates of both TNA and URP converged at Kasarani to pick their presidential candidate and running mate
At a delegates conference in Kasarani, Kenyatta and Ruto ditched their parties KANU and ODM, with Ruto saying he will resign as Eldoret North MP next week, after consulting his close advisors and constituents.
Kenyatta said the Jubilee alliance would be hinged on preaching peace and national cohesion as well as bringing a generational change in the leadership of Kenya.
While making his acceptance speech, Kenyatta pledged that his government will eradicate poverty, hunger and diseases. He also said the era of divisive politics, tribalism and mismanagement of national resources will cease during his reign.
“Jubilee will conduct peaceful politics without hatred and incitements. We’ll develop this country,” he said and revealed that the alliance’s manifesto would be launched soon outlining their development agenda ahead of the forthcoming General Election.
Ruto on his part said Kenyans now had a choice between the past and the future by electing the right leaders.
“This contest is now properly framed. It is between people relying on the past and people who focus on the future,” he said in reference to the CORD which named Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as the presidential candidates.
The URP leader said has worked with Kenyatta for 15 years and has come to apprecitate him as a focussed man who can be trusted by Kenyans.
” I believe in Uhuru having worked with him in government; Uhuru does not believe in rhetoric,” he said.
He said the next government will not be judged by the promises they make but their performance.
Speakers at the joint delegates conference emphasised the theme of a generational change in the country’s leadership saying that the youths will determine how Kenya will be led.
Kenyatta and Ruto also signed an agreement with Narc party to address its agenda on health, poverty, education, food and water if they form the next government.
Narc leader Charity Ngilu was designated to become the Senate Majority Leader should the Jubilee alliance win the March 4 elections.
Ngilu said she also needed confirmation that women would be empowered to play a development goal in the country and that every Kenyan will be engaged in meaningful activities that would enable them afford a decent livelihood.
