Omanga Ditches UDA, Throws Support Behind Linda Mwananchi Movement

Omanga signaled a clear political shift, declaring: “Its about the people .”

NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 20 – Prominent businesswoman and former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has ditched President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), declaring her support for the fast-growing “Linda Mwananchi” movement.

In a bold social media post accompanied by a poster promoting the movement’s upcoming rally in Kakamega, Omanga signaled a clear political shift, declaring: “Its about the people .”

Her latest remarks underscore an increasingly public distancing from the ruling party and align her with the Linda Mwananchi tours spearheaded by Edwin Sifuna, the embattled Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

What began as a series of town hall-style engagements has rapidly evolved into a broader grassroots mobilization drive, with the Linda Mwananchi tours taking on the character of a political movement.

The forums have drawn significant crowds across counties, positioning themselves as platforms to amplify citizens’ voices on governance, cost of living and accountability.

The former nominated  senator is widely expected to mount another bid for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat  a race she narrowly lost in the last general election. Her renewed political positioning is likely to reshape her campaign strategy in the capital.

While she has not formally announced her departure from UDA, her public embrace of the Linda Mwananchi movement marks one of her clearest breaks yet from the ruling party.

Sifuna confirmed that he has officially notified Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen about his upcoming Linda Mwanachi Kakamega rally scheduled for this Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Amalemba Grounds, Kakamega.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Sifuna said that he had already sent the notification for the Kakamega rally to the Kakamega OCPD and that he was going to send the same notification to the Senate WhatsApp group.

According to Sifuna, Murkomen is still an active member of the Senate WhatsApp group, having been a former senator, and he reads all the communications on the said social media platform.

“By the way, that individual called Murkomen is still on the Senate WhatsApp group because he is a former senator. In fact, I have taken advantage of that. Yesterday I saw him say that he was not aware that we were going to Kitengela,”

“ I have sent a notification on the Kakamega rally that we have made to the OCPD of Kakamega to his WhatsApp number, and I am going to send it to the Senate WhatsApp group because he reads our messages there, although he is not a senator, so that he does not come and tell the country tomorrow that he was not aware that we were going to have a meeting in Kakamega,” Sifuna said.
