AG applies to have order suspending Finance Bill set aside

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 5 – The government has applied to have the order suspending the Financial Bill 2023 vacated.

The Attorney General through Githu Muigai told the court, that the order has crippled the government operations interms of revenue collections and the state will not be able to withdraw funds from the consolidated funds.

Muigai told Justice Mugure Thande that the petitioners who came to court did not disclose material facts that the financial act was intended to assist the government collect enough revenue to assist in it’s operations.

However in a swift move the petioners through Okiya Omtata, Otiende Amollo and Daniel Maanzo strongly opposed the application by the State saying the enactment of the financial bill was done in bad faith, they said that the court acted within it’s jurisdiction in ussuing the conservatory orders to allow parties filtrate their case.

The added that in issuing the order it took into consideration the way it issues that it had been laid in the Constitution, they urged the judge hlto hear the application for contempt against Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority which has disobeyed the order and proceeded to hike the prices of fuel.

The judge directed that the application for contempt be heard this afternoon.
