Well, Mr Kilonzo, if you insist on having it your way for an expedient short term reason, Kenyans may well pass a referendum on the constitution barring any amendments, however minor, without a national referendum. That’ll ultimately hurt the flexibility the drafters initially wanted to leave open. You should have more faith in the system to work out a solution instead of heavy handed approaches to every minor problem. Nor should you make this a contest between you and CIC.
He was saying this after CELEBRATIONS to mark the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE DEMOCRACY????
For me it is a non-issue. August, December? Same difference really.
If I was to take over as president, I would want to come in not too early in the financial year as that would be a year wasted on implementing somebody else’s manifesto. January would be ideal as it gives me just enough time (6 months) to prepare own budget according to own manifesto on the basis of which I was elected.
Democracy is about the people electing representatives and delegating some of the power to make decisions on their behalf and holding them to account. The cabinet is made up of elected peoples representatives who are going to pass a proposal to parliament, also elected representatives, who will make a call either way.
I like your thinking although i would favour December over August.Why?.August is usually a short holiday and even most schools, which are used as voting stations, are running remedial classes in preps for annual exams. We don’t want to mess with that.If things go heywire,it would mean that children in class eight and form fours would not be able to take their exams…..Let’s give ourselves a break, tupende tusipende.
This is “Wapende Wasipende” attitude – Remember he is a graduate of the Kanu-Nyayo school. What else do you expect.

“….Constitutional Affairs Minister Mutula Kilonzo says he will push through a Constitutional Amendment Bill on the election date despite public uproar….” this he manifestly CANNOT do, lacks that level of support in the House….more empty talk.
