LSK to stage protest outside DCI headquarters on Monday

LSK President Eric Theuri claimed a member of his firm, lawyer Beatrice Ngethe, was abducted on Friday morning by DCI operatives for giving legal advice to a client and her whereabouts remain unknown.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 11 — The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for a protest outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Monday over claims of an alleged abduction.

In a statement on Sunday, LSK President Eric Theuri claimed a member of his firm, lawyer Beatrice Ngethe, was abducted on Friday morning by DCI operatives for giving legal advice to a client and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Theuri said LSK had instructed an Advocate to file an urgent habeas corpus application to compel the State to produce Ngethe.

“We have visited several police stations to trace her in vain. The family has been tossed around different police stations,” he said.

The LSK President lashed out at the government accusing the State of targeting the legal profession.

“This is an affront to the legal profession because she’s allegedly been abducted for giving legal advice to a client,” Theuri asserted.

He announced they would demonstrate against the heinous assault on the legal profession.

“An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us,” Theuri said.
