Cabinet Secretaries contribute Sh1.2mn towards Magoha funeral arrangements

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 6 – Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) in the current government have contributed a total of Sh1.2 million towards the funeral arrangements for former Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha.

Handing over the money on behalf of the Cabinet Secretaries to the family of Prof. Magoha at his residence in Lavington, Nairobi today, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, said the money was individual contribution from the Cabinet Secretaries.

The CS who was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Internal Security, Dr. Raymond Omollo, and the Gem Constituency Member of Parliament, Elisha Odhiambo, said the government is in touch with the family, to ensure that all the logistical issues are running smoothly.

He said the government will transport the body of the late former CS for Education to Yala by air as earlier promised, as well as provide logistical support of the procession that will take place on Wednesday February 8th 2023 in Nairobi.

“Food support to be delivered by the government is already on the ground as at today, Monday 6th,” stated the CS.

He at the same assured the family that the government will remain ready and available to support them over the remaining days of mourning and beyond.

Elisha Odhiambo, the Gem Constituency MP said the people of Gem are grateful to President William Ruto, for the support they have received from the government and were still looking forward for any further intervention that may be availed.

“We want to give Magoha a memorable and endearing sendoff, that is reflective of the people of Gem, who are themselves indomitable in education,” he stated.

“Today morning the homeland security landed in Yala and is setting up tents in preparation for the sendoff of the late Magoha,” he added.        

The farewell caravan will proceed to the Lee Funeral home, where there will be a procession to various places that defined the late Magoha, to enable Kenyans and dignitaries pay tribute to the gallant soldier.

The places to be visited include University of Nairobi – College of Health Sciences, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Headquarters, Kenya National Examination Council offices along Dennis Pritt Road, Nigerian High Commission, St. Georges Primary School, State House Girls High School and Starehe Boys Centre.

The late Magoha who passed away on January 24 this year, will be laid to rest at his home in Umiru, Nyamnina on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
