NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 29 – Public Works Principal Secretary Mariam El-Maawy who died in South Africa following an Al Shabaab attack in July will be buried on Saturday in Nairobi.

Her family says she will be laid to rest at the Lang’ata Cemetery after prayers at a mosque in South C.

El-Maawy’s body was expected in the country from South Africa on Friday after she succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment from the July 14 Al Shabaab attack in Lamu.

El-Maawy was kidnapped at Milihoi on the Mpeketoni-Lamu Road, leading to a major security operation by police and military personnel, but she sustained injuries when the vehicle she was in rolled and caught fire.

Her nephew and several security forces were among those killed in the attack.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to lead top government officials to the burial.
