Turkish firm Raff targets Kenya defence textile market

Raff, which already operates in several African markets, is seeking to partner with local firms rather than adopt a purely export-led model, aligning with efforts to deepen local participation in industrial value chains.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 25 – Turkish military gear manufacturer Raff Military Textile is eyeing entry into the Kenyan market, in a move that could boost investment in specialised manufacturing.

The planned expansion signals growing interest in Kenya’s defence supply chain, driven by improving infrastructure, a stable economy and ongoing security sector modernisation.

Raff, which already operates in several African markets, is seeking to partner with local firms rather than adopt a purely export-led model, aligning with efforts to deepen local participation in industrial value chains.

The company plans to supply specialised military uniforms under its “Raff Elite” range, targeting high-performance security units.

Chief Executive Officer Eray Yükseloğlu said the move is part of a broader regional strategy.

“Kenya is a vital partner for us. We are not just looking to supply equipment; we are looking to build a bridge between Türkiye and Kenya,” he said.

“Our goal is to strengthen our partnership ties and create a bond that benefits both nations.”

While details on the scale of investment remain unclear, analysts say such ventures could support skills transfer and growth in niche textile manufacturing, depending on the level of local integration.

Kenya has been positioning itself as a hub for industrial development, with increased focus on import substitution and strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity in strategic sectors.
