NAIROBI, Kenya, May 16 – Msambweni Member of Parliament Omar Zonga was on Thursday arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over fraud-related charges and released on a Sh500, 000 personal bond.

Zonga is accused together with Principal Lands Officer Jotham Chea and Lands Registrar Mary Kai among others of having conspired with the co-accused to defraud Dignified Holdings Limited its parcel of land in Kwale/Diani beach.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested these persons and will present them at the Mombasa High Court to face several corruption related charges,” EACC Chief Public Relations and Protocol Officer Nicholas Simani said.

He said that the accused caused the preparation of a partial development plan for the said parcel of land that had already been alienated to and registered in the name of Dignified Holdings Limited.

Simani also said the accused will face other counts including obtaining registration by false pretence.

“On further diverse dates between September 1998 and October 2006 at Ardhi house, Ministry of Lands, Nairobi, jointly and willfully procured by false pretence the registration of a part development plan, an allotment letter and certificate of lease for parcel of land in Kwale, parcel of land that had already been alienated to and registered in the name of the said Dignified Holdings limited,” he said in a statement.

The Minister and his co-accused are due to appear in court on Monday next week.
