Maraga to admit over 200 new lawyers to the Bar

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14 – Chief Justice David Maraga is Thursday set to admit over 200 new advocates to the Bar, the second batch of newly trained lawyers to be admitted to the Roll of Advocates this year.

Maraga admitted 223 new advocates to the Bar on Wednesday, in the first admission ceremony this year, at the Supreme Court.

Deputy President William Ruto’s son, Nick Ruto, was among those admitted to the Bar Wednesday.

DP Ruto urged Nick to stand true to his calling as a defender of justice, human rights and a campaigner for equity and truth.

Last year, CJ Maraga admitted over 829 advocates among them Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollo’s son Rodney.

Since assuming office as the Chief Justice in October 2016, Maraga has presided over the admission of over 2,000 advocates to the bar.

There are currently over 13,000 advocates in the country although some of them are listed as dormant or inactive.
