NAIROBI, Kenya, June 10 – The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) collected Sh32.14 billion in Value Added Tax (VAT) in May 2025, marking a 16 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The growth is attributed to enhanced compliance enforcement measures, improved vetting for VAT registration, and ongoing iTax system upgrades that have tightened the verification and approval process.
KRA has been ramping up efforts to reduce fraudulent claims and increase the number of active contributors, following data showing that only 22 percent of VAT-registered taxpayers currently shoulder the tax burden.
