NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 19 – Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has challenged countries in the global south, including Kenya, to tell their problems on the international stage amid multiple economic challenges.
Mudavadi highlighted severe economic and geopolitical challenges currently facing developing nations, emphasising the urgency of collective action and resilience-building.
He pointed out that the globe is witnessing escalating inflation, rising debt costs, and increasing risks of default.
”He observed that the Global South was witnessing unprecedented slowed growth, persistent negative impacts of climate change, terrorism, roll-over effects of the rising geopolitical tensions, as well as supply chain disruptions, particularly for much-needed productive resources to address the calamitous needs of developing countries,” read a brief by the office of the Prime CS in part.
He expressed concern over the unprecedented slowdown in growth across the global south, driven by persistent climate change impacts, terrorism, geopolitical tensions, and significant supply chain disruptions.
These disruptions, he noted, particularly affect the availability of productive resources necessary to address the urgent needs of developing countries.
Despite these challenges, Mudavadi praised the awareness and engagement of citizens in the Global South, who continue to demand leadership that champions their rights and meets their needs.
He stressed the importance of these nations making their voices heard at the global level in an increasingly unpredictable and uncertain world.
Likeweise, the Prime CS raised alarms about the emerging threat of cyber technology being weaponised to incite violence and instability.
He stressed the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to counteract these threats, which have been witnessed in several countries recently.
