iPhone 5C: ‘C’ for Cheaper but still out of league

It is expected the iPhone 5c will come in White, blue, black, red, green and yellow colors.

The usual rumor mill surrounding the release of an Apple product is on overdrive. This time, the buzz is about a cheaper iPhone Apple is manufacturing to target the masses and compete with other hand-set makers who have been eating into their high-end market share.

Leaked information suggests the iPhone 5C will have plastic casing, cutting the cost of manufacturing by $17 dollars per handset, according to analysts at Morgan Stanley. According to CNN Money, Apple is looking to knock off $100 dollars with the iPhone 5C, but Apple CEO Tim Cook has denied plans of producing a cheaper iPhone.

Despite the denial, pictures of the leaked iPhone 5C shows Apple might move away from the conventional black and white colors to a range of six colors – hence the ‘C’.

From various reports flying around the web, the iPhone 5C will not be a cheap smart phone but a mid-range handset. The estimated cost could be $400 – $500, still a bit expensive for most considering the number of similar devices already in the market by competitors. Probably the only thing Apple can depend on is the strength of the brand.

According to SIM Only Radar, the iPhone 5C will be powered by a dual-core CPU, 4-inch screen and a resolution of 640×1136 pixels, just like the iPhone 5. The 5C will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes with a 8MP rear camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera.

Rumour has it that the iOS7 powered phone will be released on September 10th  2013.
