NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 – Equity Bank Group has announced a Sh2.8 billion scholarship that will be paid for 113 students who have been admitted to top global universities.

The Equity Leadership Program (ELP), a social arm of the bank, scholars have secured admissions in 71 international universities in 22 countries.

They will be joining higher learning institutions such as Havard University and Amherst College in the USA, as well as the University of Debrecen in Hungary, among others.

Beneficiaries include 82 from Kenya, Rwanda (21), Uganda (8), and the Democratic Republic of Congo (2).

As part of the scholarship package, undergraduate students will each get an airlift token of Sh200,000 to support their transition.

“Build strong networks and innovate to create lasting solutions for your community and invest in your ability to overcome challenges and find new approaches as this will be your greatest asset,” said Mwangi.

ELP, which was founded in 1998, has benefited about 23,825 university scholars.

“By establishing your networks and contributing ideas and solutions on how to bolster Africa’s economic potential, you can grow trade and investment on the continent, you can expand markets and accelerate technology adoption to elevate our potential,” he added.
